Sepoy Deep Chand cremated

HAMIRPUR:

Mortal remains of Sepoy Deep Chand of 13 J&K Rifles were consigned to flames at Baroti village, about 40 km from here, today.

Thousands of men, women and children were present at his funeral.

Earlier, the body of the martyr was taken to the village from Bachat Bhawan, Hamirpur, in a motorcade.

Prominent among those present at the crematorium were the Himachal Pradesh Education Minister, Mr Ishwar Dass Dhiman; the MLA, Mr Baldev Sharma; the ADM, Mr Nirmal Singh Suman; the SP Mr Ahmed Payam Syddiqui and the SDM Mr Gopal Sharma. They placed wreaths on the body.

Col A.K. Kapoor, Col H. Klair and Capt R.C. Pathania represented Army. Slogans of "Deep Chand, amar rahe, amar rahe" and "Pakistan of barbad, ho barbad", rent the air as Mr Vinod Kumar, cousin of the martyr, lit the pyre.
