MALERKOTLA: Mortal remains of Sepoy
Jaswant Singh of 10 Sikh Light Infantry, who laid down
his life on July 6, in Kargil in a fierce hand-to-hand
combat with the Pakistani intruders, were consigned to
flames with full military and civil honour at his native
village, Bhasaur, 10 km from here, under Dhuri
subdivision today. Master Sukhvender Singh,
eight-year-old son of the martyr, lit the pyre of his
father. Jaswant Singh was the youngest of four brothers.
He is survived by his wife and three children. His father Swaran Singh,
said he was proud of his son's bravery. Those who were present at
the time of cremation include: Mr Gobind Singh Kanjhla,
State Minister, Punjab; Mr Dhanwant Singh, MLA, Dhuri; Mr
Anirudh Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner, and Mr Arpit Shukla,
SSP, Sangrur. The Deputy Commissioner
said all possible help would be given to the family of
the martyr by the state government. Mr Makhan Lal Lalka,
Chairman Bajigar Cell of Punjab Pradesh Congress
Committee also visited the breaved family and expressed
his sympathies. |
